Post of the Week #95

Sunday, November 30th, 2008

Many Congratulations to this week’s winner:

Belgian Waffle: This isn’t because I am. I’m not.

Nominated by Zed

There was something else I forgot to say and it is this. People fought to give me this right and I am so grateful. Thank you to those women. Thank you Simone Veil. Thank you David Steel. Thank you, truly, to anyone who marched, or researched, or wrote or protested or litigated for our - for my - reproductive rights. I will never take these achievements for granted.

Our judges said:

Just the fact that she had to consider not publishing this makes me angry. Every woman should have this right, and this was a very moving account of difficult experiences.”

Your judging team this week consisted of Bob, Clare and Sarah with Dandelion on shortlist duties.

Shortlist For Week Ending 28th November 2008

Saturday, November 29th, 2008

The next Post Of The Week will be announced on Sunday evening.
Please note that nominations for next week cannot be accepted until then.

If YOU would like to vote on this week’s shortlist and be part of the decision making for the Post of the Week this week, please pick your 5 favourite posts from the list and award them 5 points for the favourite, down to 1 for the 5th favourite and mail your votes to peacharse@yahoo.com no later than 6pm on Sunday night.

So. Let’s get on with the shortlist:

  1. Belgian Waffle: This Isn’t Because I Am. I’m Not.
    Nominated by Zed.

  2. Chocolate Sandwich: A man is nothing without regimentals
    Nominated by MissyM.

Men look so splendid in uniform don’t they?’

I guessed that this was rhetorical and left my wife to her reverie.

‘All of them. They all look so…..impressive.’

I smiled across from the Norton Recliner – happy that Maude could derive so much pleasure from such simple things. In my peripheral vision, however, I could see that her attention was breaking away from the television and turning towards me.

  3. Dad Gone Mad: Gravity, Stay The Hell Away From Me<
    Nominated by MissyM.

Do you know how sad it is to buy a tube of analgesic ointment? What a crushing blow that is to one’s sense of youth and vigor? For what it has done to my spirit, I may as well have purchased a titanium hip and a portable oxygen tank.

  4. Non-working Monkey: I Consider “Listening Skills”
    Nominated by Mike.

It is quite unbearable. I am not sure what is worse, this kind of selfish noise, or the passive-aggressive nonsense at the other end, which features one being listened to awfully carefully and nothing actually happening. Still, I am perfect and that means that it is now time for me to write yet another one of my handy ‘guides’ - guides that, if you have any sense at all, you will print off and stick to your cubicle wall.

Post of the Week #94

And a hearty congratulations to this week’s winner …

The Missy M Missives: A Jason Orange in my Stocking

Nominated by Gordon.

This is about as far removed from actual Christmas as you can conceivably get, yet it is the Christmas we strive for. Admittedly maybe without the members of Take That. The presence of Gary Barlow would just make me uneasy.

Your judging team consisted of Prof Batty and last week’s winner Gordon, with Bob on Shortlist.
