Post of the Week #87

Sunday, September 28th, 2008

An international shortlist has given us a close contest, but alas there can only be one winner. This week’s Post of the Week goes to …

Nelly’s Garden’s In Which I Am Found Lying On The Broad Of My Back On My Father’s Grave.”

Nominated by Bob.

“Too true,” said I. “If there’s anything more cunning than a Catholic priest it’s a Catholic bishop. No doubt they’ll all have been sitting about discussing the problem of neglected graveyards.”

I loved this post. A wonderful new voice to add to my RSS feed (which is about the only thing I can afford to overfeed these days).

Top points to Nelly’s Garden because it made me laugh and Priests are indeed a cunning lot. And Bishops are worse. Trust me.

This week’s shortlist was prepared by George, and those weighing in on yonder voting were Sarah R, George, and Bob.

Shortlist for week ending 27 September 2008

Saturday, September 27th, 2008

The next Post Of The Week will be announced on Sunday evening.
Please note that nominations for next week cannot be accepted until then.

If YOU would like to vote on this week’s shortlist and be part of the decision making for the Post of the Week this week, please pick your 5 favourite posts from the list and award them 5 points for the favourite, down to 1 for the 5th favourite and mail your votes to bob@bobzyeruncle.com no later than 6pm on Sunday night.

1.) Maria’snot quite done yet.” Nominated by Daisy.

You know it’s the right thing to do, you know it’s the thing you’ve decided, and yet. They will force you to look at the state of the world and make you believe, for a teeny bit of a second, that it will all be better if you just decided to stay with the man who denied you for the duration of your cohabitation. Because that would be best.

2.) Nelly’s Garden’s In Which I Am Found Lying On The Broad Of My Back On My Father’s Grave.” Nominated by Bob.

“Too true,” said I. “If there’s anything more cunning than a Catholic priest it’s a Catholic bishop. No doubt they’ll all have been sitting about discussing the problem of neglected graveyards.”

3.) Steakhouse Blues’ “[I have more memories than if I were a thousand years old]” Nominated by Lyle.

I remember the thrill of playing football–the base joy in understanding that I was faster, stronger, and/or meaner than those that opposed me. I remember the pride I felt when opposing players would point me out during warm-ups and issue warnings to their teammates, “there he is, that’s 74. Watch him, he’s alot better than he looks.”

4.) Welcome to Hobocamp’s you’re nice.” Nominated by Bun.

The man on the overpass is kind of famous where I live. He’s in his thirties or so, lives near the bridge with his two sisters, and has an IQ somewhere in the sixties.

Post Of The Week #86

And the winner is…

Wait for it, wait for it…

Overdressed And Underpaid, with Shame

As with many of the incidents that sneak up on me when I’m trying to go to sleep, filling me with so much horror as I remember them that I have to stuff my duvet into my mouth to stop myself from screaming, I was very drunk when this occurred. I’d just started sleeping with a bloke in my friendship group that I’d fancied for ages, we’ll call him Travis, and was in the pub with him and some others.

OMG! I am so glad I’m not the only one this has happened to!

Purple froth, sex and a man called Travis - I laughed so much I nearly gagged.
