Monday, October 8th, 2007I’m very pleased to announce this week’s winner, not least of all because I nominated it too… Now, because that makes me copper, judge and jury, I didn’t vote this time, despite being head judge… and it still won….

“Sure , in the 70’s , when I was small , I remember the rows and stormy patches , my dad with hippy sideburns and bookish ways clashing with my mums flippancy and flightiness . But somehow they got through those times of betrayal and conflict and had settled into something that looked like old love. Or friendship . Or both.”
Our judges said:
A great tribute to her mother and father. Her respect and love for them is apparent but she pulls no punches about the realities of being a ‘carer’ and the inadequacy of the term itself. I loved it. (Tiny point: the spaces before the commas niggled my OCD brain a little)
