Big Ass Belle: piano music

He played the piano for Ronnie as he had done for years. Music to remind him of his love, music to speak of his loss when he had no words to do so. It was love and anguish and heartbreak and regret that kept his fingers moving over those keys night and day for weeks and weeks. When it finally stopped, it stopped for good.

Our judges said:
“A beautiful and moving sonata of grief, loss, remembrance and love. I can’t do it justice.”
“It conjured up for me the image in Rear Window of the lonely pianist on the top floor - I love that film!”
“The overwhelming presence of loss pervades the piece, enough to make your chest tighten in sympathetic sorrow.”

This was a very difficult week to judge–very high quality submissions that reflected a wide range of different and strong emotions. Congratulations to Big Ass Belle, and I strongly encourage anyone looking for a good read to check out the other shortlisted nominations.

Lovely post of course. But *what* are your three judges on? :o)

I agree with patita. I was shortlisting this week and when I looked back on the posts selected I did think that the quality was pretty high and that there were some quite varied posts in there.

You were asking last week about how some posts make the list and others don’t. My approach is pretty straightforward: I read them all and mark them with a “yes”, a “no” or a “maybe”. I pay no attention to who has nominated them and no attention to what the nominator says about them. I simply open the link, read, and have a think. At the end of it, I’ll look at the “maybes” again and decide if they should make the cut onto the shortlist.

That’s it. It’s purely subjective, of course, but I do like to think that I am unswayed by a blogs reputation or anything like that.

It was a good selection this week, I thought - and a worthy winner.

    Peter - whadddya mean??

  5. Peter

Hi Dandelion. Nothing nasty, I assure you. Just that comments 1 and 3 were a little “florid”, one might say.

  6. patita

Well, I had been gardening all day, Peter! ;)

  7. Peter

Exactly. Nicely illustrates my point. How are the bees in your area?
