The End of Motherhood : “Little boys do not like the taste of death“
The son asked the question, “Will I die?” The father answered, “We all die eventually.” The son chose to disbelieve him. “I am not going to die,” he said.
Little boys do not like the taste of death. They spit it out if they can.
Our judges said: “Touching and sad, but ultimately hopeful.”

Before the week is out and this page vanishes into the great internet void, I just wanted to say thank you to The Goldfish for nominating my post, to the judges for favoring it, and to everyone who linked from this site to read it. That post came out of the worst experience of my life. And though I am proud of nabbing post of the week, I would, in a heartbeat, trade it and much more for the ability to go back and spare my Youngest what brought his little four-and-half-year-old self to that moment. It guess it is hard for me to let anything good come out of it. But it has, thanks to all of you.
