It’s a short shortlist this week, with a hint of controversy surrounding Lyle’s nomination of Charlie Brooker’s post Thanks to China We Have A Blueprint for 2012 at Comment is Free. I’m linking to it, because it is excellent, and well worth a read, but I can’t in all conscience shortlist it, because it is not a personal blog. Sorry.
- An Englishman In Osaka: Offensive English Test
Nominated by KateThe Test of English for Offensive Communication is being introduced as a result of numerous student complaints that when they go overseas, they can’t understand the abuse being hurled at them.
- Freaky Trigger: After the Goldrush
Nominated by MikeI’m not suggesting that fame and fortune is the main reason any of our athletes compete, but it’s got to be a nice bonus, and the fact is that following these Games some of our winners are going to end up a lot more famous than others.
- I Am Livid: Padstein
Nominated by MikeI picked up a can of Coke and headed to the till with my tiny box of cod and chips.
“That’ll be £9.20 please.”
“£9.20? Are you sure? I mean, I know I’ve been queueing for quite a while, but inflation in Cornwall is hardly at Zimbabwe’s levels is it?”
- Reluctant Memsahib: How Not To Wait At Tables
Nominated by Missy MThere is a new restaurant in the Outpost.
It’s called the Golden Eagle.
Local competition, with not the tiniest hint of sneering sour grapes you understand, has dubbed it the Golden Cockroach.
