Previous Shortlists : Feed
February 15th, 2008

The next Post Of The Week will be announced on Sunday evening.
Please note that nominations for next week cannot be accepted until then.

If you want to get involved with voting for this week’s Post Of The Week- yes, YOU - would like to vote on this week’s shortlist, then please mail peacharse@yahoo.com by 6pm UK time on Sunday evening with a list of your favourite five posts (no more, no less), starting with your favourite and working down.

  1. ForkSplit’s “Tweaker Tanya. A gym-class from hell, nominated by Mike.
I’m no gym rat. Sometimes, in fact, I’ll go months without seeing the inside of a gym. Then, my ass starts jiggling during sex, so I’ll hit the gym for a few months until everything’s nice and tight. Then I stop. For a couple months.
  2. Private Secret Diary’s Valentines Day: A timeline is very a propos right now, nominated by The Girl.
The apartment is pleasant, but basic. There is a cooker and a fridge, but few other appliances – certainly nothing that would elevate ‘student lodgings’ to ‘a home’. One of her flatmates has lent me her room for the purposes of gift-concealment; I sneak into here and drag out a small second-hand freezer which I have bought with all the money I have in the world. Panting, I lug it through the doorway and plug it in beside her bed.
  3. Bitchy Jones‘ “Because everyone knows work emails aren’t private“, also nominated by The Girl. (she’s had a busy week)
But really his pen didn’t look much bigger than your pen. I love your pen. I know you think I am biased.
  4. Gargoyle201’s “A Question Of Time, nominated by Cliff.
My grandfather has always been an old man to me. In my earliest intelligible memories he was already retired from his job as a testing engineer at Rolls Royce, and well into his 60s. At the time he probably would have been referred to as an older man. The transition from older man to elderly man and now to frail elderly man has taken place over my entire life time. He is now in his mid-90s, me in my later 30s.
  5. Razorblade of Life’s “Z Approves“, nominated by Mike. (he’s been busy too)
I started with some diffidence with the word ‘approve’. It suggests a lofty disengagement … then I realised that this is mere inverted pomposity and that I was being a bit of a twit. Not that I disapprove of twits of course – sometimes you don’t know you are making a fool of yourself until you already have.
  6. Crystal Jigsaw’s “What’s Cooking?, nominated by kate.
The farmer went to bed early with a cold. He never complains. He keeps going, no matter how poorly he feels. The sheep have to be fed and feed has to be prepared which, as we mix our own, means a long drawn-out job. It is cheaper even though a little less convenient. I realised I would have to make a fast recovery when he came in through the back door, red eyed and exhausted.

And that’s yer lot. Like we said way up at the start there, if you want to vote for your favourite from that little lot, feel free - just mail peacharse@yahoo.com by 6pm UK time on Sunday evening with a list of your favourite five posts (no more, no less), starting with your favourite and working down. Go on, you know you want to. Have a say. Have a vote. You never know, you might even like it and want to do it on a more regular basis.
