NOMINATIONS FOR THIS WEEK ARE NOW CLOSED.
The shortlist will be appearing several hours from now.

OK, so it originally appeared in print two years ago, and as such it possibly doesn’t qualify for the shortlist… but in the spirit of drawing people’s attention to quality blog posts which they might otherwise have missed, here’s a gem:
May Contain Notts: Skegness - It’s So Burning.
…and while I’m in the mood for nominating posts that shouldn’t strictly qualify for the shortlist, here’s a month-old post from a political blog, which addresses a campaign that I knew nothing about until this morning.
Dan Hardie’s weblog: We can’t turn them away.
(If interested, it’s also worth following the “next post” link at the top, and various other links arising.)
Yorkshire Soul gets all sensitive, and displays his skills as an agony aunt…
It’s not a blog post,it’s a set of posts within a forum - but blu-tone’s posts within this forum thread had me crying with laughter. In work.
Extremely funny, but distinctly “boy” in tone, it’s well worth the read.
In Firefox, if you search for blu-tone and keep on ‘find next’ , it’ll go faster. This may or may not be a good thing…
…and in the spirit of The Silly Season (for how else are we to navigate the traditional August Lull?), here’s another unorthodox choice: it’s Marcello Carlin’s comment on “Welcome Home” by Peters and Lee, on Tom Ewing’s Popular blog (which is an ongoing post-by-post evaluation of every UK Number One single from 1952 to the present day).
Ah, not quite the correct URL for the link: let’s try it again.
If the next nomination is a photo of a wordless cartoon, I’m gonna put everything on the shortlist.
Heh… I actually very nearly nominated a Flckr photo, but even the Silly Season has its limits…
Tempting as it is to vex Asta, I have an honest-to-goodness recent blog post that has never been published anywhere else before!
The Apiary News: A Rant 15 Years in the Making
Well maybe it’s time to introduce the Reluctant Memsahib to POTW. I’ve chosen my favourite of the last fortnight’s posts:
http://reluctantmemsahib.wordp.....the-truth/
(But I would also recommend you read the one that comes after for the real ending to the story…)
Dave Gorman Kinder vs Ülker: a lengthy essay on the comparative benefits of a Kinder Surprise to an Ülker Toto. With Pictures.
(from last Tuesday, but within the rules, I think)
Beautifully elegiac writing, and not at all commonplace, in fact, from Down In Me.
Do not exceed the stated dose from the Overnight Editor.
Ooh, let’s have us some droll social observation!
It’s A Life: Let’s talk about food, baby.
Oddverse: Wives, Girlfriends and the OK Generation.
the mind, imagination and always the words of an unreliable witness for ‘equus’

Let’s have something off of Livejournal! Bengobaz is one half of the London DJ partnership Readers Wifes, who have been resident at “Duckie” on a Saturday night for years and years and years. This is his Glastonbury Diary, posted just a couple of days ago.

That, is how to write.
JonnyB beat me to it!!!
To complicate matters, Gentleman Ranters was a blog right up until last week, when it de-blogged.
Should such treachery to our movement be rewarded? You decide!
You’re killin’ me.
I’ve had a look at their homepage. It still has the feel of a blogsite to me. Nothing tells me that they are being paid for these posts. This nomination was written recently, it is a post (not a comment on a post- although that could make an interesting sub-category) Am I missing something?
“I Want To Be A Ventriloquist” by Guyana-Gyal

Thought-provoking, funny, moving, and written in her own inimitable style. The Gyal definitely has her mojo back.
